Sha Ting's reading of Chinese and foreign literary works and characteristics of accepting external influence
Sha Ting has read a wide range of Chinese and foreign literature. His calmness and objectivity made him more willing to accept the satirical literature of 19th century Russia, such as Gogol and Che-khov.However,the writers and works he likes and reads are not necessarily the object of his imitation and reference. He is different from Lu Xun,Lao She,Zhang Tianyi and Qian Zhongshu in the specific charac-teristics of learning from foreign literature. The influence of Russian literature on Sha Ting is not external and explicit, but internal and melted in texture and blood;it is not an individual study or imitation of a work or an artistic skill, but generally accept the basic creative methods and literary spirit of realism,ex-posure,satire and criticism.Gogol and Chekhov have potential influence on him. Many similarities between his and Schedrin's works are a kind of"coincidence".There is no influence relationship, and it is"harmony but difference".But Sha Ting's satirical achievements did not surpass Gogol,Chekhov and Schedrin, nor did he surpass Lu Xun,Lao She,Qian Zhongshu and Zhang Tianyi.
