Character positional frequency information plays a very important role in the process of word seg-mentation in Chinese reading.Existing studies have mainly focused on the independent effects of character positional frequency information or its combined effects with other factors on word segmentation.This pa-per reviews the research findings from the aforementioned aspects and,on this basis,proposes prospects for future research directions.These include investigating the sequence of the processing of character posi-tional frequency information and word segmentation,enriching the research on word segmentation of over-lapping ambiguous words,and delving into the impact of character positional frequency information,con-textual diversity and other various psychological cues on word segmentation.
