Caricature is an art form mainly using metaphors to portray life or current news.Metaphor is a u-nique form of human cognition.Based on embodied-cognitive linguistics perspective, this paper cross-cul-turally analyzes the mechanism of conceptual metaphor in Covid-19 caricatures between China and the US,and explores the similarities and differences and their causes of these multimodal metaphors. The study finds that the differences in form originate from the influence of high and low contextual cultures, the dif-ferent standing-points from the different thinking modes;while the strong similarity in content is based on the common sense of human embodied-cognition and the similarity of cultures,as well as the coming stronger consciousness of a community of shared future for mankind.
