Objectives This study explores the feasibility of using rapid atrial fibrillation(AF)detection sticks for opportunistic AF screening. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2023 to January 2024 in Nanhai Hospital of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital.A total of 5 169 outpatient visitors were screened for AF using the rapid detection sticks.Patients who tested positive were further assessed with a complete medical history and a 12-lead electrocardiogram(ECG)for validation of AF detection in a general population setting. Results Of the 4 971 patients with complete data and quality single-lead ECGs,2 501 were male(50.3%),and 2 470 were female(49.7%),with an average age of(50.4±16.1)years.The opportunistic screening identified 117 positive cases,of which 93(1.9%)were diagnosed with AF.Among these,68(1.4%)patients had a previous history of AF,and 25(0.5%)were newly diag-nosed cases. Conclusions Based on the results of the outpatient opportunistic AF screening, the rapid AF detection stick proves to be an ideal, novel tool for large-scale opportunistic AF screening. It is effective for the timely identification of latent AF cases, allowing for immediate intervention. Its economical, convenient, and rapid characteristics make it suitable for further deployment in community settings.
