Shengshigao is commonly used to clear Yangming heat.It is can be found from Shanghanlun and Jinkui Yaolue,thirsty which is Baihu Jia Renshen Decoction pattern and not Baihu Decoction pattern.So it can be seen that the treatment of thirst is Renshen and not Shengshigao,because Renshen can tonify the stomach and generate fluid.It is wrong that Shengshigao is generally considered to treat the thirst.Shengshigao is commonly used to clear the Yangming heat by ZHANG Zhongjing,but not Huangqin or Huanglian,which can expell the heat evils both in the superficies and in the interior,for the reason that Shengshigao can clear and let out the heat.Because Shengshigao can clear the heat and not affect the function of expelling superficial evils,whenever we see a dry-mouth,irritability and other symptoms of the Yangming heat,Shengshigao can be used,for example,Xiaoqinglong Jia Shigao Decoction and etc.
