Elderly hypertension is an important factor that jeopardizes the health of the elderly in modern society.With the wide application of traditional Chinese medicine to lower blood pressure in elderly hypertension the method of replenishing kidney Qi in the treatment of elderly hypertension is being vigorously developed.As an important herb to replenish kidney Qi,Huangjing(Polygonati Rhizoma)has the efficacy of replenishing Qi and nourishing Yin,strengthening the spleen,moistening the lungs and benefiting the kidneys,but there is a lack of systematic interpretation of the method of replenishing kidney Qi by Huangjing(Polygonati Rhizoma)in the treatment of hypertension in the elderly.In this paper,we reviewed the ancient and modern literature to verify the kidney Qi tonifying effect of Huangjing(Polygonati Rhizoma),and systematically interpreted its kidney Qi tonifying effect through the theories of essence-Qi mutualization,successive heavens mutual capitalization,and Jin-water phasicity,so as to improve its value in the treatment of elderly hypertension by tonifying the kidney Qi method.Meanwhile,its effects of inhibiting oxidative stress,improving insulin resistance,regulating intestinal homeostasis,and regulating sex hormones in the treatment of hypertension were also explained in the light of its chemical composition and modern pharmacological studies.It aims to provide theoretical guidance for further research and drug development.
