During the Northern Song Dynasty, the river course of the lower reaches of the Yellow River changed many times, and floods were frequent, which greatly affected the cities and towns in the lower reaches of the Yellow River, and even threatened the survival of the cities and towns. For this reason, the Song court com-pleted the survival of the cities and towns through the construction of flood prevention and drainage mea-sures,but under the frequent erosion of floods, the Song court was forced to relocate some of the cities and towns, and the choice of new sites had more considerations of preventing floods. In conclusion, the environ-mental factors of the hydrology of the lower reaches of the Yellow River and the anthropogenic factors of the Song court's governance together contributed to the formation of the characteristic architectural forms of the cities and towns bordering the river in the lower reaches of the Yellow River in the Northern Song Dynasty.
