Diversity and Unity:on the Imperial Sacrifices and the Politcal Culture in the Yuan Dynasty
The imperial sacrifices in the Yuan Dynasty were inseparable from its political culture.According to empirical research,it can be summarized that the Yuan imperial sacrifices can be the characterised as estab-lishing Mongolian customs as privilege, and the Central Plains etiquette as the mainstay,as well as compati-ble with multiple cultures. The"dynastic rituals"in the Yuan literature mainly refer to traditional Mongolian customs, but in fact, took shape through continuous construction and evolution in the wake of the develop-ment of the political power.Various rituals applied for different levels serve to build up hierarchical ethnic identities. In the process of the intersection and collision of the Mongolian and Han Chinese cultures, the es-sences of Chinese sacrifices manifest as religious function, political strategy and cultural construction. The multicultural factors in the Yuan imperial sacrifices were the result of the political transition from a steppe regime to a unified dynasty.Under the background of Great Unification, selecting and blending multicultural factors to create a new ceremonial was a major feature of the political culture of the Yuan Dynasty.
