The Country Life Movement was the fruit of various interrelated social trends and ideologies at the turn of the twentieth century.The erosion of rural traditions instilled a profound sense of urgency among agrarian reformers to preserve rural civilization from extinction.Concurrently,urbanization intensifying Americans'longing for an idyllic rural life and traditional values.Decline of rural population ratio and increasing urban population heterogeneity raised concerns among some social thinkers regarding racial purity and even racial suicide.Consequently,there was heightened emphasis on revitalizing the country to retain what they deemed as quality native stock on farms.Inspired by progressive reform movements,the Country Life Movement emerged under the leadership of individuals dedicated to agricultural ad-vancement and rural development.
