The narration on the sea's circumstance,resources,and culture preserved in three gazetteers of Funing sub-prefecture edited in Ming dynasty,reflected the great change in the coastal people's idea after Japanese Pirates in Jiajing period.The gazetteer of Funing sub-prefecture edited in Jiajing period would like to record the sea from the perspective of general circumstance,transportation,and economy,while the two gazetteers edited in Wanli period further emphasized the military geographical value and status of the sub-prefecture,with more details on the offshore islands and gulfs.Such a change means,severe crisis and relative readjust on the coastal military defense always push the coastal people gaze more on the ocean.
