Inheritance and Cultural Identification of"Tangshan"Folk Beliefs in Southeast Asia:A Case Study of Overseas Chinese from Longyan
Early Chinese emigrants brought overseas one of the most important aspects of their life culture,folk beliefs,which they considered to be closely intertwined with their fate.After a long period of histor-ical development,Chinese folk beliefs have taken root in the countries where these emigrants settled.They have played a non-negligible role in the dissemination of Chinese culture.Compared with the lo-cal forms in Tangshan,the folk beliefs of Southeast Asian Chinese have undergone adaptations during the process of inheritance and dissemination.The localization of these beliefs represents a flexible ad-aptation strategy and an inevitable choice for Southeast Asian Chinese facing cultural and social diffi-culties.It also reflects the cultural wisdom of the early Hakka Chinese communities who struggled and thrived in Southeast Asia.The powerful vitality of folk beliefs and the cultural identification of overseas Chinese are demonstrated through the inheritance and development of these beliefs,which adhere to traditional values while embracing innovation.
