Experiment on Flow Characteristics of Particles in the Silo Discharge Process
In the silo, the flow state of the particles is influenced by the silo structure. And the flow characteristics of the particles in the silo unloading process will also threaten the safety of the silo structure. In order to observe the discharge flow pattern of particles, the transparent vertical silo was designed in this experiment.Acrylic particles of different shapes and sizes were used to simulate the unloading process of silo, and the influence of particle shape, particle size and the central decompression tube on the flow characteristics of particles was compared. The results show that the particles flow pattern was mass flow in the early stage of discharge in the vertical silo without central decompression tube. And in the late stage of discharge of silo, the particles flow pattern was obviously funnel flow.Compared with spherical particles, cuboid particles are more likely to have tubular flow in the unloading process and have obvious particle retention on the inner surface of the bin wall.In addition, the large particles had a larger impact scope, and the flow area diameter is larger. The central decompression tube slowed down the discharge process, and changed the discharge sequence of particles, meanwhile, the discharge of particles was more evenly.
