The Establishment and Comparison of HS-GC and HS-GC-MS Methods for The Determination of Benzenes in Drinking Water
Objective:To establish headspace gas chromatography and headspace GC/MS methods for the determination of seven benzene homologues(benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,m-xylene,p-xylene,o-xylene and styrene)in drinking water, and to discuss the consistency of the two methods.Method:The conditions of headspace, chromatography and mass spectrometry were optimized, and the detection limits, precision and accuracy of the two methods were compared.Result:The recoveries of the two methods were 90.4%~100.2%,the relative standard deviations were 1.1%~4.3%,and the lowest detectable concentrations of headspace gas chromatography were 0.03~0.08 μg·L-1,the lowest detectable concentration of headspace GC-MS was 0.002~0.005 μg·L-1,there is no significant difference in the determination results. Conclusion:The two methods are simple, rapid, accurate and sensitive, and are suitable for the daily detection of benzene homologues in drinking water.Headspace GC/MS method is more sensitive and suitable for the determination of trace and matrix complex samples;Headspace gas chromatography is suitable for the determination of high concentration samples.
