An Investigation into the Exiled and Degraded Officials at Yuzhou and Fuzhou in the Tang Dynasty
For nearly three hundred years in the Tang Dynasty,the knowable number of people who had been degraded or exiled to Yuzhou and Fuzhou is 25,among which 10 officials are from Yuzhou and 15 are from Fuzhou.In terms of the period,there are five officials in the Xuanzong period,four in the Gaozong period,three in the Zhongzong and Suzong periods respec-tively,two in the Empress Wu and Xizong periods respectively,one person in the Daizong,Dezong,Xianzong,Muzong,Wen-zong,and Zhaozong periods respectively.For the types of punishment,there are 23 officials being degraded in rank(One didn't go to take office)and two being exiled.In terms of positions held after their relegation,there are twelve Cishi(inspector of a province/prefecture),two Zhangshi(deputy provincial/prefectural governor)and two Biejia(deputy provincial/prefectural inspec-tor),five Ling(the county-level governor)and five Wei(lieutenancy),four Sima(provincial/prefectural discipline inspector),four Sihu(officials in charge of account accounts)and four Canjun(officials engaged in military activities).In terms of poetry and prose,Liu Xian,Wei Shu and Lu Jian all had works.
