On the Integration of Cultural and Tourism Industries to Narrow the Urban-Rural Income Gap:An Empirical Study from Yunnan Province
The integrated development of the cultural and tourism industries narrows the income gap between urban and rural areas through urban-rural interaction,exhibiting a certain spillover effect on this gap.Based on the spatial panel data of 16 prefec-tures and cities in Yunnan Province from 2009 to 2019,this paper uses the coupling coordination model to measure the level of integration of cultural and tourism industries,and employs the spatial lag model to empirically analyze the spatial spillover effect be-tween the integration of cultural and tourism industries and urban-rural income gap.The results show that the urban-rural income gap in Yunnan Province has significant spatial clustering characteristics with a clear spatial spillover effect.Whether it is the tradi-tional panel regression model or the spatial panel model,the integrated development of the cultural and tourism industries will help alleviate the income gap between urban and rural areas,and ignoring the spatial spillover effect will overestimate the impact of the integrated development of the cultural and tourism industries on the urban-rural income gap.The integrated development of the cultural and tourism industries has a spatial spillover effect on narrowing the urban-rural income gap,and every 1%increase in the integrated development of the local cultural and tourism industries will reduce the urban-rural income gap between the local area and surrounding areas by 1.349%and 0.553%respectively.The industrial structure can narrow the urban-rural income gap but is not significant,the transportation infrastructure and the level of opening up have significant direct and indirect effects on narrowing the urban-rural income gap,and the financial development level has significant direct and indirect effects on expanding the urban-rural income gap.The study fills the gap in research related to the role of the integrated development of cultural and tourism in-dustries in narrowing the urban-rural income gap,enriches the research on its spatial spillover effect,and has great reference value for how to narrow the urban-rural income gap through the integrated development of the cultural and tourism industries.
