A Study of the Current Situation and Prevention of Flatfoot among Students of Middle and Primary Schools in Leshan
Currently, domestic research on the prevention, screening, and long-term prognosis of flatfoot is not comprehensive. There is still a lack of standardized prevention and treatment systems, expert consensus, and guidelines. In this study,10,038 school-aged children from eight primary and secondary schools in Leshan have been selected for screening positive cases of flatfoot by means of foot bone morphology measurement, heel lift test, footprint analysis, and pain scoring.Further statistical analysis has been conducted on their age, body mass index(BMI),and the correlation with flatfoot classification.According to the results, the prevalence of flatfoot among school-aged children in Leshan aged 6 to 14 years old is 10.31%,with 850 cases of mild flatfoot(82.13%),144 cases of moderate flatfoot(13.91%),and 41 cases of severe flatfoot(3.96%).The prevalence of flatfoot among school-aged children in Leshan is the same as that in the world, and the prevalence rate tends to decrease with age.Younger age and obe-sity are risk factors for flatfoot(P<0.05).Based on these findings, corresponding prevention measures have been proposed to raise public awareness and attach its attention to flatfoot for a science-based prevention and treatment.
