Synchronic Narrative of Grand History and Personal History:A Review of Li Jishun's Novel Anning Autumn Water
Anning Autumn Water is the latest masterpiece by the Sichuan writer Li Jishun, which vividly depicts the changes of the townships in the southwestern part of Sichuan over the past thirty years. The novel portrays the spiritual transformation of young people in townships during this period of change. On the one hand,it continues the theme of individual departure and return to motherland since the May Fourth Movement, using classical and legendary writing techniques to narrate the representation and limitations of modernity among rural youth. On the other hand,it integrates chronicle-style grand narrative into specific geographical and cultural spaces, creating a synchronous narrative with the significance of local chronicles and ethnography.
