A Study of Current Location of the Small Tusi Under the Jurisdiction of Sizhou During the Yuan Dynasty
The Sizhou Tusi system of the Yuan dynasty was located at the gateway to the interior of Yunnan-Guizhou and controlled the two major transportation routes of the Wu and Yuan rivers.The research on the current location of the Small Tusi under the jurisdiction of Sizhou in the Yuan Dynasty is of certain academic significance for the study of the southwestern ethnic border areas of the Yuan and Ming dynasties.The scholarly community has studied some of the present locations of the Small Tusi under the jurisdiction of Sizhou in the Yuan dynasty,however,some studies are vague with governments in the Ming and Qing dynasties as coordinates to mark the position of the Yuan's Small Tusi,or mere statement of the location of their governing offices.But the research on the Small Tusi is more scattered,failing to shape an overall understanding.The paper,based on historical records and with the guidance of local language,rivers,topography,and place names,explores the current positions under Sizhou jurisdiction during the Yuan Dynasty.For those accurately identified locations,no investigation is conducted.Only those that have not been investigated,or those with incorrect or unclear identifications are examined.As a result of this research,38 exact current locations and 10 approximate locations have been determined.
