Effects of monensin on production performance and blood parameter in beef cattle
To evaluate the effects of monensin supplementation on production performance and blood parameter in beef cattle, forty eight Simmental beef cattles (about 12-month-old) were randomly divided into 4 groups. The control group was fed the basal diet (mixed concentrate and corn stover, concentrate to roughage as 45 to 55).Treatment Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ were supplemented monensin of 100,200 and 300 mg/d,respectively.The results showed that:the intake of corn stover and total dry matter in treatment Ⅱ was significantly higher than that of the control group; for treatment Ⅱ and Ⅲ,the average daily gain was significantly higher than that of the control group, the feed conversion rate was significantly lower than that of treatment Ⅰ and the control group, the concentrations of blood glucose, albumin, total protein, urea nitrogen, and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and weight gain income and gross incomeincome were significantly higher than that of treatment Ⅰ and the control group. The suitable dose of monensin was 200 mg/d.
