Research on the impact of industrial chain extension mode on farmers'income increase resilience under COVID-19 epidemic shock
In the context of COVID-19 epidemic shock,it is of great significance to study how to ensure farmers'income increase resilience for realizing the goal of rural revitalization and common prosperity.Based on the municipal panel data from 2016-2022 and the comprehensive measurement of industrial chain extension index, this paper empirically studied the mechanism of industrial chain extension model on farmers'income increase under the background of COVID-19 epidemic. The results showed that:(1)The industrial chain extension model had a positive effect on farmers'income under the epidemic shock.Compared with the regions that had not adopted this model, farmers'income in the regions that adopted this model increased by about 12%.(2)Heterogeneity test showed that the impact of the industrial chain extension mode on farmers'income was different among regions, and the income-increasing effect in the northern forest region and the southern forest region was more significant.(3)In the context of the epidemic, the impact of industrial chain extension on farmers'income had a single threshold effect of urbanization rate. When the urbanization level exceeded the threshold valueof 50.12%,the positive effect of industrial chain extension on farmers'income increase would be strengthened.(4)In terms of mechanism testing, under the epidemic shock, the extension model of the industrial chain ensured the resilience of farmers'income by improving agricultural labor productivity, which played a partial mediating effect. This paper innovatively improved the concept of industrial chain extension mode, enriched the mechanism of industrial chain extension on poverty alleviation, and provided a new perspective for in-depth discussion on the relationship between external shocks and farmers'income.Based on the research conclusions and discussions, this paper proposed policy implications such as strengthening the extension of agricultural industrial chain, forming development strategies according to local conditions, improving regional urbanization levels, and comprehensively promoting the labor productivity.
