The species diversity of birds was investigated in mangrove areas of the Quanzhou Bay Estuary Wetland during the period from October 2011 to September 2012. A total of 79 species were recorded, belonging to 12 orders and 27 families. Among them 40 species were winter visiting birds, 31 species were resident birds and 8 species were summer visiting birds. 41 species were avian fauna belong to the Palearctic Realm, 35 species belong to the Oriental Realm, and 3 species belong to the Widespread. Furthermore, the composition and annual variation of bird species in this area and the seasonal composition of birds in six mangrove wetlands in Fujian province were analyzed. The problems existing in birds protection were identified, and suggestions were put forward for improving bird protection.
