Impacts of Climate Change on Coastal Wetlands in China and Countermeasures
The coastal wetlands in China have been facing the risk of continual degradation and loss. Among all the risks, climate change has resulted in a series impacts on coastal wetlands through sea-level rise, sea surface temperature rise, storm surge, seawater intrusion and shoreline invasion, and ocean acidiifcation. These impacts have led to degradation and extinct of coastal wetlands, restraining sustainable development of the coastal region. Based on an analysis of current situation of coastal wetland degradation, the impacts of climate change on coastal wetlands in China were investigated, and potential countermeasures for self adaptation and planned adaptation to climate change were explored. It was suggested further strengthen monitoring of the impacts of climate change on coastal wetlands and studies of adaptation mechanisms, thereby providing practical foundations for relevant policy-making and staff-training.
