Assessment of the Habitat Suitability for Waterfowls in Dianchi Lakeside Based on AHP and GIS Methods
The suitability assessment of the habitat for waterfowls in Dianchi lakeside is of great significance for guiding waterfowl conservation management and wetland restoration. An analysis model of habitat suitability in Dianchi lakeside was constructed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)and GIS technology. The assessment model uses five criteria including hydrological condition, food richness, concealment degree, distance from water source and human disturbance.Quantitative suitability assessment of the habitat for four waterfowl groups, namely gulls, waders,Anatidae birds, cranes and ibises showed that food and human disturbance were the main factors affecting the habitat selection of lakeside waterfowls in Dianchi. There were significant differences in the spatial distribution of the most suitable habitat for the four groups of waterfowls, with the suitable areas for gulls and cranes and ibises being larger than those for waders and Anatidae birds. The most suitable habitat for waterfowls was distributed in strip or patchy areas on the west of Caohai, south and east of Dianchi outer lake. This research method provides a reference for the quantitative and spatial analysis of the suitability of waterfowls in other wetlands, and provides basic data for biodiversity conservation and wetland restoration of waterfowls along the wetland of Dianchi lakeside.
