Mechanisms and Influencing Factors of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products Removal by Constructed Wetland Plants
Constructed wetlands have good efficiency in removing PPCPs,with wetland plants playing an important role in this process. However, most published reviews focus on the role of substrates and microorganisms, lacking reports on the removal mechanisms of wetland plants for PPCPs.Therefore, this study systematically summarizes the roles of constructed wetland plants in PPCPs removal, including absorption and degradation by plant roots, providing suitable colonization environments for microorganisms, shaping rhizosphere microbial communities through root exudates, and enhancing the efficiency of PPCPs removal. This review further analyzes the influencing factors of constructed wetland plants in removing PPCPs,including temperature, redox potential,pH,etc.,and proposes that future research can focus on the removal effects of different tissues of wetland plants on PPCPs and quantify the contribution of each tissue, which is of great significance for comprehensively understanding the removal mechanism of constructed wetlands on PPCPs.
