Advances of the Applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Peatland Monitoring
Peatlands are important ecosystems that store a significant amount of carbon,play a crucial role in mitigating climate change and biodiversity conservation.The use of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)for remote sensing in monitoring and managing peatlands has proven to be efficient,adaptable,and minimally disruptive to the environment.This paper reviews the various application outcomes of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)remote sensing technology in peatland research since its emergence in 2010.The research indicates a significant upward trend in the application of UAV remote sensing in peatland vegetation classification,biomass estimation,hydrological investigation,and topographic analysis,with the technology becoming increasingly diverse and mature.Additionally,the study identifies and reviews two major research hotspots,the use of UAV remote sensing in the evaluation of carbon cycling during peatland restoration and in response to fire events.Based on the prospects of an integrated"space-air-ground"remote sensing application driven by artificial intelligence,it is recommended further strengthen UAV remote sensing in data acquisition,processing,and application within peatlands.
