Multi-Trait Evaluation and Comprehensive Selection of Acacia melanoxylon Clones in Different Periods
[Objective]To comprehensively analyze and evaluate the differences in multiple traits of Acacia melanoxylon clones at different forest age stages and reveal the level of population phenotypic variation, screen and evaluate excellent clones, and provide scientific basis for the preservation, utilization and direc-tional cultivation of target traits of superior tree species.[Methods]Eight indicators, including growth traits, stem shape, wind resistance and pest resistance of 20 Acacia melanoxylon clones were measured. The clonal populations of A.melanoxylon were compared and comprehensively selected by means of variance analysis, genetic parameter estimation, difference comparison, and comprehensive evaluation of Brekking's multi-traits.[Result]There were significant differences in tree height, diameter at breast height, and volume among A.melanoxylon clones at 2.5 a,4.5 a,and 6.5 a.Clones SR18,SR17,SR20,and SR14-1 showed the best growth in tree height,DBH,and timber volume across different age stages..SR14 and SR14-1 had the best height-to-diameter ratio, and SR25 had the best stem shape with fewer branches. The overall wind resistance of A.melanoxylon is strong, and SR45 had the lowest wind resistance in the three forest ages.A.melanoxylon clones SR3,SR25,SR26,SR31,SR41,SR45 had strong disease resistance, while SR18,SR17,SR14,SR14-1,and SR25 had higher comprehensive Qi values.[Conclusion]There is considerable variation among the Acacia melanoxylon clones.Clones SR18,SR17,SR14,SR14-1,and SR25,selected from the 20 clones in this experiment, demonstrate the best growth traits, stem form, wind resistance, and disease resistance. These findings are significant for the breeding of superior Acacia melanoxylon varieties and provide a theoretical foundation and scientific basis for the high-quality development and establishment of its plantations.
