Preliminary Study on Intraspecific and Interspecific Grafting Affinity of Castanea mollissima and C.henryi
[Objective]To understand the differences in affinity beween intra-species grafting of Castanea mollissima and C.henryi,inter-species grafting between C.mollissima and C.henryi,and to select wide af-finity and rootstock combinations for practical application.[Method]Based on one-year-old grafted seed-lings of four types of intra-species grafting and inter-species grafting of C.mollissima and C.henryi tetra species,the graft healing,growth traits,leaf phenotypes,and photosynthetic physiological indexes were in-vestigated and measured,and cytological observations of graft healing were made using paraffin sections,and a comprehensive evaluation was carried out using statistical data.[Result](1)Among the four graft-ing types,the survival rate of intraspecific grafting of C.mollissima and C.henryi ranged from 35.71%to 91.33%with good healing of grafts,while the survival rate of interspecific grafting of C.mollissima and C.henryi ranged from 16.67%to 45.00%only with poor healing of grafts;(2)Seedling height,ground diamet-er,and leaf number were significantly(p<0.05)better in the C.mollissima or C.henryi intraspecific graf-ted combination than those of interspecific grafted combination;(3)There were differences in leaf pheno-typic traits among different grafting types,with the leaf area and leaf thickness of intraspecific grafting com-binations of C.mollissima being significantly greater than those of C.mollissima grafted with C.henryi.The petiole length of intraspecific grafting combinations of C.henryi was significantly larger than that of C.henryi i grafted with with C.mollissima;(4)Cytological observation revealed that the isolation layer between anvils and spikes disappeared in intraspecific grafting combinations of C.mollissima and C.henryi,and anvils and spikes were integrated,while an isolation layer appeared between anvils and spikes of interspecific grafting;(5)The comprehensive evaluation scores of each grafting combination showed that A4 was the best,followed by A7,A3,A2,A1,A8,A5,and A6.[Conclusion]There is a certain degree of affinity existed in interspecific grafting of C.mollissima and C.henryi,but it is generally lower than that of intraspecific grafting combinations of C.mollissima or C.henryi.
