Seasonal Dynamics and Influencing Factors of Leaf Color of Common Tree Species in Northeast China
[Objective]The objective of this study was to investigate the seasonal dynamics and influencing factors of leaf color in common tree species in northeast China, aiming to provide a basis for revealing the color mechanism of leaves and informing landscape configuration of northeast China.[Method]Ten commonly used tree species with colored leaves, including Acer rubrum,Betula platyphylla,Prunus virginiana and Ulmus pumila'Jinye',were selected as materials. The chromatic aberration parameters(L*,a*,b*),pigment content, and soluble sugar content of leaves were measured, followed by an analysis of their correlation with the mean temperature.[Result]The composition and proportion of pigments vary significantly among leaves from different tree species. The seasonal dynamics of leaf color were observed to be influenced by both average temperature and pigment content throughout the process of color change. The chromatic aberration parameters exhibited a significant negative correlation with both chlorophyll content and mean temperature(P<0.05).Conversely,the parameter a* showed a positive correlation with anthocyanin content(P<0.05).Meanwhile,correlation analysis revealed no significant changes in the content of soluble sugar in leaves during the color change period, suggesting that a lack of substantial association between soluble sugar content and leaf color change.[Conclusion]As the mean temperature decreased, there was a gradual decline in chlorophyll content among autumn-yellow and red leaves of species, while the carotenoids/chlorophyll ratio increased in yellow species.Additionally, the anthocyanin/chlorophyll ratio increased in red species. In the species with normal color leaves, the leaf color and pigment content of Prunus virginiana and Alnus hirsuta were relatively stable, while Prunus cerasifera'Atropurpurea'and Ulmus pumila'Jinye'exhibited regreening leaves in the later stage, which was caused by the decrease of anthocyanin content and the increase of chlorophyll content, respectively.
