Does the Digital Economy Contribute to the Technological Complexity of Manufacturing Exports?
The digital economy has emerged as a new engine for value creation and value appreciation in the Chinese manufacturing sector, presenting fresh opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing exports.Utilizing provincial panel data from 2005 to 2020,this study investigates whether the digital economy plays a role in enhancing the technology complexity of manufacturing exports,consid-ering cost savings, human capital, and technological innovation as mediating mechanisms and intellectu-al property protection as a threshold variable. The research findings reveal that the digital economy signif-icantly enhances the technology complexity of manufacturing exports.Mediating effect analysis indicates that cost savings, human capital, and technological innovation each play a partial mediating role in the process of the digital economy enhancing the technology complexity of manufacturing exports.Further analysis suggests that the digital economy exhibits a marginal incremental effect on enhancing the tech-nology complexity of manufacturing exports after surpassing the threshold of intellectual property protec-tion.
