An Empirical Study on the Impact of the Digital Economy on the Resilience of the Business Economy
Business serves as a barometer for the operation and advancement of the national economy and a reflection of overall national strength.Strengthening the resilience of the business economy is cru-cial for the high-quality development of the urban economy.This study utilizes panel data from 276 prefecture-level and above cities in China spanning from 2011 to 2020 to establish a comprehensive indi-cator system for assessing the resilience of the urban business economy.By examining the initial imple-mentation of the"Broadband China"pilot policy in 2014 as a quasi-natural experiment,the paper em-pirically investigates the influence of the digital economy on the resilience of the urban business economy using a multi-period difference-in-difference model.Robustness tests are conducted employ-ing the PSM-DID method and placebo test.The research shows that from 2011 to 2020,the resilience of urban business economy in China has shown an overall upward trend,with an average annual growth rate of 6.09％.From a regional perspective,the resilience of the urban business economy shows a de-creasing trend from the coastal to the inland areas.The"Broadband China"policy has significantly en-hanced the resilience of the urban business economy,with the most evident promotion effect on the inno-vation capability of urban business,followed by the recovery capability and resistance capability,and the effect is immediate.Further heterogeneity analysis finds that the impact of the"Broadband China"policy on the resilience of the urban business economy is promoted in non-provincial capital cities and medium and small cities,but not significant in provincial capital cities and large cities,influenced by factors like city administrative level and scale.To deepen the driving role of the digital economy in the re-silience of the urban business economy,it is necessary to promote the deep integration of digital tech-nologies and business enterprises,optimize the construction of digital infrastructure,enhance the effi-ciency of the digital economy and take the digital economy as the focus to promote the coordinated devel-opment of the resilience of the urban business economy across regions.
