"After Theory"or"Theory Renaissance":Two Rehearsal Judgments on the Trend of Theoretical Development in the 21st Century
As for the basic trend of theoretical development in the 21st century,Terry Eagleton and Vincent Leitch give two very different rehearsal judgments.Rooted in the grand narrative stance of Marxism, and thoroughly"re-thinking""orthodox cultural theory",Eagleton set up an"anti-postmodern"road of"after theory";On the basis of the current extension of the"postmodern"landscape,Leitch conceived a"postmodern"model of"theory renaissance"which was grounded in the retrospective"re-exploration"of the"postmodern paradigm of theory".By comparing the heterogeneity of the two judgments, exploring the internal mechanism of their heterogeneity, and pointing out the theoretical approach of"new aestheticism"used as a"reconcile-ation"scheme,we can re-examine the basic trend of theoretical development in the 21st century.
