The Impact of Outward direct Investment in the Bohai Rim Region on the Complexity of Manufacturing Export Technology
Based on the panel data of five provinces and cities in China's Bohai Rim region in 2009-2021,a two-way fixed-effects model is constructed to empirically investigate the impact of OFDI on the technological complexity of manufacturing exports in the Bohai Rim region.The empirical results indicate that outward direct investment has a significant enhancing effect on the technological complexity of manufacturing product exports in the Bohai Rim region,with the largest impact on capital intensive manufacturing,followed by technology intensive manufacturing,and no statistically significant impact on labor-intensive manufacturing.Enhancing the scale of foreign direct investment,accelerating the upgrading of manufacturing structure in the Bohai Rim region,increasing scientific research investment,and enhancing R&D innovation capabilities are beneficial for promoting the technological complexity of manufacturing exports in the Bohai Rim region.
