Influence of environmental regulation intensity on textile export competitiveness
In order to quantify the impact of environmental regulations on the trade competitiveness of environmentally sensitive industries in various countries, the textile trade of G20 countries was taken as the research object.Cross section correlation test, stationary unit root test, panel cointegration test, and panel FMOLS estimation were used to fully verify the correlation between the environmental regulation intensity EPSI and the textile export comparative advantage index RCA of G20 countries from 1994 to 2020.The results indicate that there is a significant correlation between the two,and EPSI has a significant negative impact on textile export RCA.The impact of EPSI on textile export RCA shows significant differences among countries with different levels of economic development, and the impact of environmental regulations on textile exports in developing countries is significantly higher than that in developed countries. The strengthening of environmental regulations in Japan and the United Kingdom has a positive impact on the competitiveness of their textile exports, proving the effectiveness of the Porter hypothesis. The negative impact of environmental regulations on China's textile export competitiveness is weaker than that of India, indicating that the Chinese textile industry has developed good industry response strategies in the process of domestic environmental regulations, still ensuring sustainability and strong international competitiveness. This study suggests that China should closely monitor the dynamic changes in domestic environmental regulations on the export competitiveness of the textile industry to ensure the sustainability of China's textile export competitiveness.Drawing on the experience of Japan and the United Kingdom, turn the negative impact of environmental regulation into a positive impact; The Chinese government should vigorously provide public services such as funding and technology to respond to international environmental regulations, and reduce the cost of industry response to environmental regulations. The focus of subsequent research is to clarify the reasonable range for environmental regulation of different types of environmentally sensitive industries.
