Bird Diversity and Bird Strike Prevention at Wuxi Shuofang Airport
Knowledge and understanding of the diversity of birds at airports has important directive significance for birdstrike prevention efforts.During September 2019 to May 2021,a field survey of birds active within 8 kilometers of the flight zone and the clear zone of Wuxi Shuofang Airport was conducted by using the sample line method, with a total of 8 370 birds of 121 species of 45 families of 16 orders recorded,of which 5 species are national Grade Ⅰand Grade Ⅱ protected birds. The risk of bird strikes of different bird species is assessed, and 12 species of Class Ⅰextremely dangerous birds,8 species of Class Ⅱ high-dangerous birds,27 species of Class Ⅲ more dangerous birds and other Class Ⅳ low-dangerous birds are obtained. The rankings of Shannon-Wiener diversity index,Pielou evenness index and Simpson dominance index of different habitats show that Binhu Wetland Park and Lianghong Wetland Park have the highest values, which indicates that wetlands have the greatest impact on bird diversity at Wuxi Shuofang Airport.Based on the results of the study, recommendations are made to increase bird-repelling facilities and equipment and to remove peripheral bird habitats.
