Research on a Cold Air Strong Wind Process Based on Dual Polarization Radar
Using conventional meteorological observation data and dual polarization weather radar data, this paper analyzes a cold air strong wind process at the Mianyang Airport on November 11,2022.The results show that:1)This cold air strong wind process was formed under the circulation background of a trough in the upper layer of central China,a thermal depression in the lower layer of the Sichuan Basin and the formation of the Mongolian high pressure on the ground map forming a situation of high in the north and low in the south. The main causes of the strong winds were that the accumulation of strong cold air generated strong pressure gradient winds, the rapid pressure increase on the ground generated strong variable pressure winds, and the sinking momentum of cold air was transmitted downwards.2)Dual polarization weather radar can accurately detect the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of downward propagation of strong winds, and can make accurate predictions of strong winds 30 minutes in advance;based on the occurrence time of high altitude strong wind cores and speed blurry areas,a strong wind warning can be issued one hour in advance.3)By performing±2Vmax operation on the speed in the fuzzy area of the Mianyang Airport, the corrected speed value can be obtained.
