On the Two Paradigms of Early Marxist Historiography——Focusing on the Comparison of the Historiographical Ideas of Li Da and Cai Hesen
As pioneers in the study of Chinese Marxist historiography,Li Da and Cai Hesen's historiographical ideas have both commonality and individuality. On the one hand, they systematically introduced the basic tenets of Marxism and used them as an important method for analyzing historical issues, thus promoting the development of historical materialism in China, and thus Marxist historiography flourished in China;on the other hand, because of their different life experiences, revolutionary practice, ideological personalities, and theoretical accomplishments, there were differences in the interpretation, research, and dissemination of Marxist historiography, especially in their different styles in terms of cognition of historical materialism, historical research content, and historical research methods. It has distinctive characteristics and presents two different paradigms of historical governance, the"Li Da-style"historiography and the"Cai Hesen-style"historiography,but their specific orientations and value goals are very consistent, and they are all aimed at meeting the needs of China's revolutionary struggle and have the same goal on the road of advancing Chinese Marxist historiography, which fully embodies the dialectical unity of the basic form of Marxist historiography and the form of the times. An in-depth comparison of the similarities and differences between Li Da and Cai Hesen's historiographical ideas is of great practical significance for promoting the development of Marxist historiography today.
