Advance in Study of Brachypodium Distachyon as a New Model Plant Specie for Grass Crop
Brachypodium distachyon, a kind of temperature grass with small physical size, rapid life cycle, and only 0.71 of rice genome size, especially with more closely relationship to cool-season cereal crops than rice, is a relatively ideal model plant species for grass-crop research at present. Much research related to this model species has been done, such as cytogenetics, genomics and genetic transformation. A summary and review about Brachypodium distachyon will have important meaning for study of cereal crops, particularly cool-season cereal crops.
