Discussion on the Changes of Sea Merchant Groups in Jiajing Period:Focusing on Song Suqing and Wang Zhi
During the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty, the tributary trade between China and Japan was interrupted, and the traditional maritime trade management system gradually disintegrated and collapsed. The increasingly complex situation along the southeast coast, coupled with the uncertainty of the Marine policy of the Ming Dynasty, expanded the development space of private overseas trade and showed a diversified development trend.Song Suqing and Wang Zhi were both maritime merchants.According to the official view of the Ming Dynasty, there were outside China and unstable factors that caused the Japanese invasion raging in the southeast coast. However,Song Suqing and Wang Zhi were in the adjustment period of the foreign trade management system in the Ming Dynasty, representing two completely different maritime merchant groups.By analyzing their organization and operation mode, their relationship with tributary trade and their approach to internationalization,we can clearly see the development track of maritime merchant groups and non-governmental overseas trade in the middle and late Ming Dynasty.
