A study of the abandoned women theme in the legends of Tang Dynasty from the perspective of narratology——Taking The Biography of Huo Xiaoyu and The Biography of Yingying as examples
The image of abandoned women in ancient Chinese literature has a long history.The Biography of Huo Xiaoyu and The Biography of Yingying,the representative works of the legends of Tang Dynasty,also write a similar theme of abandoned women,with a high degree of similarity in the types and patterns of plot setting,the contrast and setting off of characters and the comprehensive use of perspective suspense,which shows the maturity and perfection of the narrative skills of love legends in this period.In The Biography of Huo Xiaoyu and The Biography of Yingying,special images such as"silk fabric","dodder"and"jade ring"are used to express the emotion of abandoned women.The narrative expression of analyzing abandoned women's psychology through the transformation of narrative time and narrative space and the connotation of warning reflected in the fate of abandoned women constitute the cultural implication of the theme of abandoned women in the legends of Tang Dynasty,and then reflect the overall narrative style of the legends.
