Gurnah's reflections on the self-construction of refugees'cultural identity——An examination centered on The Pilgrim's Progress
Identity is an issue that Gurnah, winner of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature, has always been concerned about in his novels, especially in his second novel,The Pilgrim's Progress. In the novel,Gurnah takes the protagonist Daud's cultural identity crisis in the British local cultural environment as a clue, and writes that he finds the way of cultural integration and completes the self-construction of cultural identity. The Pilgrim's Progress not only presents Gurnah's observation on the self-construction of the cultural identity of refugees, but also reflects his deep humanitarian concern.
