The origin and development of witch culture in Chen Jinggu's belief in Fujian Province
The characteristic of witchcraft culture is one of the basic connotations of early Chen Jinggu's belief. The connotation of witchcraft culture in Chen Jinggu's belief can be seen through the significance of the important role played by the witch doctor community in the evolution of human civilization, and it can also be traced back to the snake god belief with symbolic significance of reproductive witchcraft and totem witchcraft in the primitive society.During the Song Dynasty,Chen Jinggu achieved a transformation from a witch to a god in the"banning witchcraft"movement and"god investiture"movement carried out by the imperial government. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Chen Jinggu's belief was combined with southern witch religion and gave birth to a new branch of Lvshan School namely Madame Sect, and Chen Jinggu became the main deity of this branch. The mutual absorption of Chen Jinggu's belief and the Lvshan Sect injected new impetus into promoting the prosperity of each other's cultures.
