Abstract
Levinas regarded ethics as the first philosophy, and he constructed an ethical subject based on the body in response to the modern crisis in the West.José Saramago's novel Blindness creates a grim world of blind people and constitutes an allegory that echoes reality.Blindness describes the placement of the body, the suffering of the body and the shadow of hope, and probes into the construction of the identity of the ethical subject in western society, which coincides with Levinas'body philosophy.Calling for ethics and constructing"ethical body"are common prescriptions for the crisis of contemporary western modernity.
