A Study on English Translation of Ancient Chinese Poetry from the Perspective of Rhetorical Cognition
Poetry involves rhetorical cognition in its creation and translation.The rhetorical cognition paradigm sheds new light on research into the translator's translation of rhetorical poetic discourse,as in form and content.Based on the central idea of the rhetor-ical cognition paradigm,this paper explicates the features and dimensions of rhetorical cognition in the English translation of ancient Chinese poetry,namely features of aesthetics and context-dependence as well as dimensions of conventional and unconventional rhetoric.It concludes that the study helps guide the translator through the cognitive process of translating poetic discourse to facilitate the poetic optimal relevance between the source and target poems.
