Greetings from Cuba:the Theatricality,Rituals, and History in Carpentier's Stories
Cuba is one of the literature headquarters in the Caribbean area and an indispensable branch of socialist literature. However, due to the remoteness of geography and language barriers,Cuban literature remains little known to Chinese readers and academics. This article takes Alejo Carpentier's three short stories,"El Estudiante,""Oficio de Tinieblas,"and"El Camino de Santiago"as case studies to explore the theatricality, rituals, and history reflected in them. This article claims that Alejo Carpentier's novels represent the aesthetic characteristics of a nation,an era,and an ethnic group. He used unconstrained imagination and breathtaking landscapes to reveal the sufferings of the Cuban people and their sincere faith in the socialist state during the years of passion.
