The Third-line Construction and the Development of Inland Waterway Transportation in Southwest China
During the Third-line construction period, the government deployed a large number of industrial and mining enterprises in Southwest China. In order to ensure the input of equipment and materials required by the Third-line construction enterprises and the output of products, the Ministry of Transportation and the provinces in Southwest China actively promoted the construction of the inland waterway transportation system, continuously focusing on three aspects:waterway, port terminals, and civilian shipyards. After many years of construction, the provinces in Southwest China have built a shipping channel mainly along the Jinsha River and the main stem of the Yangtze River, with primary tributaries as auxiliary, and constructed a series of port terminals such as Lanjiatuo Port,Maoertuo Port, and Shuifu Terminal around the key areas and key enterprises of the Third-line construction, promoting the develop-ment and growth of civilian shipyards such as Dongfeng Shipyard,Chongqing Shipyard, and Sinan Shipyard. The development of inland waterway transportation in Southwest China during the Third-line construction period not only effectively met the needs of national strategy but also provided important support for the economic development of Sichuan,Guizhou and Yunnan after the reform and opening up.
