The Mechanism of Undergraduate Major Selection in American Research Universities
Major is an important link between students,parents,colleges and society,and the choice of major is directly related to the direction of students'future career development.This study takes ten public research universities in the United States as examples.Firstly,from the four aspects of choosing majors in advance,choosing majors at admission,choosing majors in the course of their studies,and switching majors in the course of their studies,the paper studies the major selection mechanism and the characteristics of diversity,autonomy,and systematization of undergraduates in U.S.research universities.Secondly,it summarises the major selection experience of"high school-university connection+diverse curriculum+teacher-student collaboration"in American research univer-sities,and explores the support and guarantee policies of the major selection mechanism of undergraduates in American research universities.Finally,from the aspects of specialty diversion,specialty early warning and dynamic adjustment,and service management,the paper puts forward the modern significance of the undergraduate major selection mechanism in American research universities for the major construction and reform of Chinese colleges and universities.
