Guizhou Mountain People is a series of work created by Pang Xunqin during the Anti-Japanese War period, which continues his local art concept formed in the late 1930s.Guizhou Mountain People takes Pang Xunqin's ethnic investigation in Guizhou Miao area as the creation background. Its theme is the life and work of Miao people, and it describes the Miao people's clothing patterns in detail. Therefore,it emphasizes the"heterogeneity"of Miao nationality compared with Han nationality. However,Pang Xunqin used the method of traditional Chinese painting to express the Miao group, adding literati meaning to the image of the Miao people.Indeed,it promotes the combination of Han and Miao artistic styles and reflects the reconstruc-tion process of the ethnic fringe in the Republic of China era.As a result,Guizhou Mountain People not only emphasizes the dominant position of the Han nationality, but also reflects the sinicization process of the minorities. This is the outcome of the national concept in the Republic of China era.Pang Xunqin used the form of painting to visualize the research results, which provids a new idea related to art for the development of ethnology.Further,it makes the ethnic research results of this period more comprehensive and diverse.
