Single Picture and Comic Picture-A Comparative Study on the Illustrations of"Women's Story"in Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio Between Picture-chanting Edition and Full-picture Edition
By comparing the illustrations of"Women's Story"in the illustrated version and the full version of"Strange Tales from a Lonely Studio",it can be discovered that the presentation of the same image theme reflects their common pur-suit of plot law.With regard to the different details of the same image theme,the full-picture edition escapes from the text,and the comparison of literati painting and genre painting,simplicity and prosperity,conservatism and flexibility between the picture-chanting version and the full-picture edition are shown in terms of the composition style.The choice of different im-age themes in the two versions of illustrations reflects their differences in elegance and vulgarity.The illustrations in this book emphasize plot,have strong interpretation of the novel and are elegant in style.In addition,the illustrations in the full-picture edition are erotic,advocating family daily life and folk expression,with strong ornamental entertainment and vulgar style.
