The term"Axi Moon Dance"is a specific term used by Han Chinese literati since the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty to refer to the custom of southern ethnic minorities(especially the Miao ethnic group)dancing for courtship, and was not coined by Liang Lun or Wen Yiduo.Around 1940,a group of intellectuals went deep into the settlements of the Axi people, using the term"dancing to the moon"to refer to the Axi people's three stringed dance of courtship. In 1945,Liang Lun went deep into the Guishan Mountain in Lunan and saw the famous"Jumping Moon".In 1946,he selected Axi actors from the local area and created a three stringed dance program called"Axi Jumping Moon".Later, the name of the program"Axi Jumping to the Moon"expanded its popularity and eventually became a specialized term for Axi people's three stringed music and dance, which was recognized by various sectors of society and Axi people.
