Consumerism and Predicament of Homelessness:Problem of Ethics in In the Beauty of the Lilies
This article adopts the theory of consumerism to analyse how the the influence of consumerism is continuously deepened through the four generations in In the Beauty of the Lilies.Consumerism has its origin in the spirit of Capitalism,and grows rapidly with the development of industrialization and capitalism.However,apart from its advantage of meeting the demands of the market,it erodes people's morality with the tendency of perceiving people as objects,triggering people's indifference to emotions and ethics.The traditional family relationship is about to break up,and people fail to find a new spiritual shelter.Additionally,despite the fact that different individuals make their own choices,catering to or resisting capitalism respectively,they inevitably fall victim to consumerism and the predicament of homelessness in a modern society.
